End of Summer Cleaning Tips

The end of summer is almost here. It’s getting to be the time when you’ve got to start getting things ready for storage until summer arrives again. In this article, we have some end of summer cleaning tips for you to make this time of year easier on you.

  • It’s time to launder your musty beach towels. Use the hottest water setting that’s safe for the material. Add a small amount of fabric softener to the final rinse. Machine-dry thoroughly. You don’t want to put up damp towels. They’ll just get moldy.
  • What to do with a sandy sleeping bag? Turn the bag inside out. If the sand is damp, let the bag air dry until the sand is dry. Shake the bag to remove as much loose sand as you can. You can brush or vacuum away the remaining residue. If the bag is dirty, you should clean it according to the sleeping bag’s instructions.
  • Muddy tennis shoes need to be dried first – completely. Take the shoes outside and bang them together by the soles. Remove as much of the dried mud as possible. With a solution of warm water and hand dishwashing liquid and an old toothbrush, you can scrub them gently to remove remaining dirt. If you have stubborn dirt marks, you can scrub them with a nylon pad. Wipe with a damp sponge or damp paper towels. Then, stuff the tennis shoes with clean and dry paper towels and let them air dry.
  • Dirty plastic table cloths should be wiped down with a soapy sponge to clean the top part. This won’t clean the back of the table cloth. To clean the whole thing, machine wash using the gentle cycle. Dry on the delicate cycle for just about 15 minutes. If the cloth is still damp, line dry. Machine drying any longer could harm the table cloth.
  • Outdoor furniture that has gotten grubby looking can be cleaned with a mild detergent and water. You should avoid abrasive powders, chlorine bleaches and silicone cleaners.
  • Soiled outdoor cushions should be spot-cleaned by sponging with a solution of liquid dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water. Rinse with clear water and air-dry.
  • Dirty, plastic pool toys should be mixed with ¾ cup of chlorine bleach per gallon of warm water. Soak the prewashed toys for five minutes. Rinse and then air-dry. If you don’t use the toys during the winter, store them in a closed container so they’ll stay clean and dust-free.

There are more summer cleaning tips obviously, but we figured these would be the ones you need the most. If you need Maids Around Town, just book an appointment online. We’ll be more than happy to help.
