How to Clean Linoleum Floors

With linoleum floors, you must be careful about the type of cleaner you use. Mild dish soap is a very good linoleum floor cleanser. It’s gentle and won’t be too abrasive for the floor. In this article, we’ll go over how to clean linoleum floors so you can get yours shiny and looking new any time you want to.

1. Vacuum the floor on “hard floor” setting. Pay attention to under the cabinets, appliances and corners where dust accumulates.
2. Put between 5-7 drops of dish soap in the bucket. Fill it with about a gallon of water.
3. Dip your mop in the soapy water and wring thoroughly so you don’t place excessive amounts of water on the floor.
4. Mop one section of the floor at a time. Rinse mop thoroughly and wring it out before you start each new section.
5. When finished mopping the entire floor, rinse the mop. Empty and rinse the bucket. Fill it with clean hot water.
6. Dip the mop in the clean hot water – don’t forget to wring thoroughly – and rinse-mop sections of the floor with clean water. Don’t forget to repeat this process for each new section of the floor. Dip, wring and mop.
7. Using old towels, dry floors. Why? Linoleum contains grooves and if it isn’t sealed properly, those grooves will quickly absorb excess water. This will give the floor a dull and dingy look. Not what you’re going for here at all.
