How to Clean Your Kitchen Cabinets

You should clean your kitchen cabinets occasionally. We don’t have a set time for you to do it. It can be whenever the mood strikes you or during your regular spring cleaning. Kitchen cabinets hold dishes, cups and other items that we use on a day by day basis. They should be relatively clean and germ-free. For materials other than wood

Wash all over with an alkaline cleaner. These are available at a janitorial supply store. You can also use a heavy-duty cleaner from a supermarket. Mix the cleaner with water or another liquid according to directions. Apply the solution with a microfiber cloth. Let it sit for a few minutes. Then, scrub wherever necessary. Then, remove the grimy suds from the cloth by squeezing them into a sink or bucket. Don’t re-dip these back in your cleaning solution. Rinse with a damp cloth and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth to remove any last traces of scum and leave the cabinets clean.

Cleaning your wood kitchen cabinets

With wooden kitchen cabinets, you’ll need to take a gentler approach. Wash around handles and greasy areas with dishwashing detergent. Then, wash the entire cabinet, including the handles with an oil soap solution. Just wipe lightly with the solution and buff dry areas with a microfiber cloth. Remember to wipe dry with the grain or pattern. You will not need polish because the surface has its own sheen when it’s clean.  If you do want to spray polish because the cabinets are worn-out looking, use furniture polish very lightly to bring the kitchen cabinets back to life.

Other tips

• Remember to empty each cabinet before you clean inside. If you have a cabinet liner, you may want to remove it and clean it as well.
• If cabinets have lots of crumbs and debris, you can vacuum them.
• Throw out any items that have expired.
• Test your cleaner on a hidden spot on your cabinet before you start cleaning with it to make sure it won’t damage your kitchen cabinet.
